Disneyland vs Sailing Holidays
When the time comes for a family vacation, there can be some disagreement as to whether it will be Disneyland or sailing holidays. And if you have young children, their consensus will typically be to go to a theme park like Disneyland. For the adults, however, a real vacation to “reboot” would be to charter a yacht in some exciting part of the world like the British Virgin Islands and be pampered by an attentive crew anticipating your every whim.
To resolve the conflict, draw the kids a vivid picture of why yachting would be more exciting than a theme park. Build some real excitement about the prospect — or at least enough curiosity — for them to opt for the wind in the sails, sandy beaches and snorkeling instead of Goofy and Mickey.
Create Family Memories
There is no reason to say this to your children but the real reason for going on a yachting vacation is because you understand that it will create more memorial family time than a theme park would. One reason for this is that everything at a theme park is manufactured. You never have a real adventure. Every ride, every sight, every video and every character is fictional, fabricated and designed to make you think you’re on an adventure when you’re not. To the kids meeting that Mickey Mouse character on the streets of Disneyland is a big thrill while mom and dad know the exhilaration of being at sea together will create an indelible family memory.
Instead of downplaying the theme park, emphasize that when the kids join you on a real yacht adventure, there is no telling what might happen. The adventures they will have are absolutely real. They will be living out “Pirates of the Caribbean” aboard their own little pirate ship actually sailing the Caribbean instead of pretending to have that adventure. Your Captain may not be Johnnie Depp but he is a real life sailor who can take you on some most amazing adventures.
Real Life Adventure
On the open sea, your family can experience real life adventure… swimming in a secluded cove, fishing for supper or just silently slipping through the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean under sail. If you plan for at least a week at sea, you almost certainly will see large fish crest the waves and perform magnificent dives. Your children will be able to look down into the depths off the edge of the yacht and see stingrays, tropical fish and maybe even porpoises swimming in the clear water.
But it isn’t all just sightseeing on the ocean. The kids can enjoy jumping from the boat for an impromptu swim or snorkeling in a secluded inlet. Gentle dolphins may decide to play with them as they frolic in waters while their friends are standing in line waiting to see “It’s a Small World.” If mom or dad decides a deep sea fishing adventure should be part of the plan, the captain can bring fish finder technology which will insure a bumper crop of deep sea bounty for the evening meal. Wow! The freshest fish possible caught by the family from their very own yacht.
They’ll Win Themselves Over
The fun of having a crew pamper every member of the family will not be lost on the children. They will love having someone besides Mom to clean up after them, provide the foods and beverages they like and a skipper who is more than happy to turn that yacht on a dime and head to a new destination if that is the whim of the family. In fact, it’s likely they may become so enthralled by the excitement of the experience of a yachting vacation that you won’t be able to talk them into ever going to Disneyland. Sailing holidays vs Disneyland… isn’t the choice obvious?
